Chirpless
It's very sad. Our beloved hen Chirpy has chirped her last. Along with Capt Mannering, our Sussex cockeral: they both fell victim to a fox on the plots the other night. How Spiller escaped we will never know but she is obviously traumatised and wanders round making plaintive whimpering noises. We are giving her lots & lots of cuddles.

Very upsetting. We just got 3 hens a couple of weeks ago and built what we hope is a fox-proof enclosure but I worry every time I come home that I'll be witness to the aftermath of such an event. Can you increase the fortifications and carry on?
